Hello readers, so I’ve been struggling to get back into the rhythm of watching anime again after taking such a long break. Every time I look at my want-to-watch list it leaves me feeling the same way I feel when trying to find something to watch on something like Netflix. There’s just too much! I currently have 400 series and movies I’ve been meaning to get to for some time now. Some of these even include classics that I should have watched years ago. I’m slowly realizing though, that I’m probably never gonna get around to watching the vast majority of these titles. So I have a tough decision to make, do I continue to add to the backlog and get taken aback every time I look for something to watch? Or do I trim the fat so to speak?
This is the question that’s been bouncing around in my head for a little while now. While I periodically go through and remove some series here and there, I generally leave the list alone. I guess that’s the main reason it’s gotten so out of hand now. I have a similar problem with games on steam, having around 750 games and only having played around a quarter of them. That’s another problem entirely though. If I decided to keep the list as is and continued to keep adding seasonal anime to it, it could grow to 500 pretty quickly. That definitely wouldn’t help with the overwhelming feeling while looking at the list either. I could also diligently go through and remove series that I’m absolutely certain I won’t get around to watching, but then I run into the problem of feeling like I’m missing out on something I might really enjoy. It’s a really tough decision, at least for me, although there is one other option I’ve been considering.
This option would be cutting the list down almost completely and only keeping series on there from the past 5 years or so. That might still leave the list pretty big but I think overall it would make it much more manageable and approachable for me. This also doesn’t mean I’m gonna abandon watching anything made before then since I’m always open to recommendations. I just feel I’ll be able to focus more on a handful of series at a time this way. I’ll also be keeping series on the list that are continuations of seasons that I haven’t finished yet. In the end, this will hopefully help get me more into a rhythm of watching through some series. While there are still some other factors that have kept me from dedicating any time to sitting down and enjoying a series, this problem is one that’s pretty easily resolvable. The others will just take some time to deal with.
Thanks for reading, I know there’s been a streak of posts recently that kind of lack much in the way of substance, but I’m working on that. This is one step of many to get my content more focused. Again, thanks for reading and I hope you all have a wonderful day!
