Shifting my schedule a bit

Shifting my schedule a bit

Hello readers, this week’s post is going to be more of an update.

So the Friday deadline each week just hasn’t been working for me, I’ve consistently been waiting until the last minute to get a post written and ready to publish the night before. I have been trying to have a post ready to go up by 8am Est time every Friday. While this has mostly worked over the past couple months, excluding when I was dealing with Covid, I think I need to give myself a little more time. I’ve not been entirely pleased with the quality of posts that have been going up. The reviews have been ok, but could definitely be better. The other types of posts are pretty easy to write since they are mostly just laying out my thoughts. Those could be better as well though, and I’d really like to work on becoming better with writing. I’ve made some adjustments over the past couple of months with my writing style, things like being more aware of run-on sentences. Also, making sure my grammar is mostly accurate and easy to read. Most of my writing experience is more long form, and while that’s alright for some topics, it’s not great for everything. I’d really like to get better at short form writing.

I also have a problem with writing posts for this site like it’s a blog, and that doesn’t really work for where I’d like the site to be at in the future. I enjoy writing blog style posts, but having a post like that once a week as the sole content for the site just isn’t going to be good enough. I’ll still be doing blog style posts, but I want to limit those to smaller posts at different times through the week. I think the best thing to do moving forward is moving my primary content to Saturday afternoons. I’ll also be limiting anime reviews to once a month, that will allow me to take more substantial notes while watching a series, as well as taking more time to watch a series. This will keep me from having to binge a series on one of my days off and then having to take limited notes and trusting my memory for the review. I’ve got decent memory, but I would like to really dive into the series I’m watching and share my thoughts. I’m also considering changing one of my review rules to allow spoilers. This will make the writing process a little easier for me, since I won’t have to dance around plot points or themes in the series. This also opens up the option for me to make smaller posts where I can either recommend a series or let readers know why I would avoid it.

The other thing getting in the way of writing is just personal projects I’d like to get in to. I’ve been wanting to make a Visual Novel for years now, and I’ve finally got a story idea that I’d like to expand on. The issue is the constant feeling that if it’s not for content for the site, then it’ll have to wait. I could obviously make posts about making the visual novel, but just getting started with that is going to take a lot of time. Plus, making a post stating “Hey, I wrote some lines this week” doesn’t really make for great content. I definitely need to work on my time management skills to help with all this, and honestly just stop being lazy. So the current plan, I think the best way to go about this, is going to be having two big posts a month. If I have something else to post about then I’ll make a smaller post, then that’ll be for another day of the week. The schedule will look like this, The first and third Saturday of every month will have dedicated long form content, with smaller posts possibly earlier in the week. With all of this, I’m trying to keep myself from feeling burnt out. The more limited schedule should help with this, but only time will tell. I love writing, but I’ve found myself stressing too much about it lately. I want to get back to passionate writing like I had when I started the site. It wasn’t very good, but I enjoyed it.

Finally, next week will probably be another small post and then there won’t be another post until the first Saturday of next month if I don’t have anything else to write about. Next month, this new schedule will officially start. As for the post next week, I’ve got no clue what I’m going to write about, but I’ve got a couple of posts drafted right now that I could finish. Sorry for the word vomit and pretty much lack of substance in this post, that will definitely change.

Thanks for reading, I hope you all have a wonderful day!
